For many rifle hunters, night shooting must be one of the most popular ways of spending an evening out in the field. In my opinion it's the most exciting form of shooting, walking your piece of land and pitting your wits against quarry that are perfectly suited to surviving in their surroundings.
But with night shooting come many problems, safety being the most obvious and the most important. When you are hunting at night, usually with a friend, you really are only a second away from a disaster. Darkness makes assessing your surroundings, such as your backstop, all the more difficult and of course target acquisition can be very tricky indeed. When using a lamp at night, distinguishing a fox from a deer, a badger or even a person can be difficult, therefore the golden rule as all night shooters will know is not to take the shot unless you are 100% sure!
However there is a solution, Nightvision. Top quality Nightvision equipment is now available to everyone. The best quality doesn't come cheap, but to the serious night shooter, the benefits in safety, target acquisition and stealth are superb, it brings a whole new dimension to night shooting enhancing the effectiveness and the excitement you will get from your sport.
The main advantage with night vision is the total lack of ambient light making you totally invisible. Lamp shy foxes become a thing of the past, a missed fox will be there tomorrow and in many cases he won't get spooked in the first place like he would with a lamp.
Personally I use night vision in the form of a longbow with a hyper gen tube on it. It's the most amazing piece of kit, foxes can clearly be seen out to 600 yards and rabbits out to 300 yards. My personal favourite is my .223 cz with afore mentioned scope on top.
During recent night outing I spotted two foxes about 500 yards away. I managed to squeak them in to about 300 yards. The first one dropped on the spot, and the second one dropped a few seconds later while he was still wondering what was going on, In my experience this would not have been possible with a lamp.
If you are interested in purchasing Night Vision equipment, why not come out one evening and let me demonstrate it. If you interested, please contact us.
