There is no text book to refer to in fitting a gun. Shotgun shooting is simple hand/eye coordination. One must be able to read the individuals movements from
gun mounting coupled with movement. Basically, when a gun fits it will shoot where you are looking. When one has arrived at this point, the rest is speed of swing - not many people think lead. The self-styled coaches at many shooting grounds today have little experience in the real craft and you can count on less than one hand those that can fit expertly.
I recently sold a pair of Purdey's to a client, he went to a local high brow shooting ground to have them fitted and they couldn't do it. In turn, they rang me to ask if I could go over there and teach them how to do gun fitting. Needless to say, my response was negative.
